Our first series of the 2012-13 year will feature guest speaker Jennifer Holberg from Calvin College. Professor Holberg has taught literature and writing at Calvin College since 1998. She was chosen as “Professor of the Year” in 2002 by the senior class, and her book, Shouts and Whispers: 21 Writers Speak About Their Writing and Their Faith, was published by Eerdmans and received a starred review from Publishers Weekly.
Topic: Stories That “Preach”
Human beings seem to have a natural affinity with narrative. From the earliest times, we’ve used stories to make sense of our lives-and that’s still true in contemporary culture. How, then, can literature give us “more to be Christian with”? In this class, we’ll consider some approaches and discuss a few examples together.
