Flu Clinic

Wed, October 9, 2019 • 5-6:30pm

In Room 141 (next to the gym)

Offered by the Spectrum Health Continuing Care Visiting Nurse Association (VNA). For your health and the safety of others, the best way to prevent the spreading of flu is to get your flu shot. This is especially true if you spend time with the young or elderly. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone older than six months be vaccinated for the flu. Spectrum Health provides a number of convenient ways for you and your family to get vaccinated, including this clinic at Rockford Reformed Church.

How People Change: How Christ Changes Us by His Grace
Fireside Room 253
Begins October 2, 2019
Led by Pastor Tim

Change doesn’t happen overnight for the Christian. Growth is a lifelong journey. In the How People Change DVD Seminar, Paul Tripp and Tim Lane masterfully guide participants toward biblical truths that lead to a life of repentance and faith by inviting them to consider their circumstances, as well as their responses to them, and examining their heart’s desire and turning toward Christ. Featuring twelve teaching sessions, this class guides people in understanding how Christ’s life, death, and resurrection bring lasting change.

Women’s Bible Study
Room 250
Begins October 2, 2019
Led by Polly Johnson

Throughout the fall session, we’ll work our way through three series:

Enough: Laugh. Cry. Love.
Laugh your way to a more fulfilling life! Continuing the relatable journey she began in the best-selling DVD Laughing in the Dark, Chonda Pierce employs her quick wit and incomparable storytelling skills to help you reach out to others and connect with God in new ways. Her encouraging message of hope will propel discussion, outreach, and healing.

Me & My Big Mouth
Open mouth. Insert foot. Ever said anything you wish you could take back? Of course you have. We all have. Even if what you said was true, those words may have cost you your job, your reputation, or even a relationship. Conversations don’t come with backspace buttons, so how do we prevent our big mouths from getting us in big trouble next time? Andy Stanley shares the secret to keeping our mouths shut in this 4-part DVD study.

You’ll Get Through This: Hope and Help for Your Turbulent Times
God will deliver you and use your mess for good. In this six-session, video-based study, Max Lucado offers refreshing assurance for anyone facing trials. Consider the story of Joseph – tossed in a pit by his brothers, sold into slavery, wrongfully imprisoned. God weaved what was meant for evil into good. He is in the business of redeeming the broken. He was then. He is still. Do you crave some hope for these tough times? Then this is the message you need.

Adult Sunday School

Sundays, 11:15am

Digging Deeper
Fireside Room #253
September 15, 2019 – May 3, 2020

Our Digging Deeper Sunday School is a series of discussions based on each Sunday’s sermon. Each week’s leader will guide you in conversation that will let you learn from each other, discuss what you can learn from the sermon on a deeper level, and help you grow in your understanding in how to carry out God’s purpose for your lives. Types of questions you might discuss are…
  • What were the main points or take-aways of the sermon?
  • What are some questions you have?
  • Did you have any “Aha!” moments during the sermon?
  • How has the sermon challenged you, affirmed what you have been thinking, comforted you, or changed you?
  • What will you plan to do to apply your take-aways into this week and beyond?

Several times throughout the year we will be inviting the High School group to join us as we work toward more cross-generational interaction in our programming.  Adults are also invited to join the High School Youth Group (Sundays, 6:30-8pm) on the following dates: Oct 6, Dec 8, Feb 23, and April 19.

Nehemiah: The Courage to Face Opposition (begins Sept. 10, 2019)
Led by Marcia Coleman & Carol Knox, Room 212

Nehemiah was a leader who faced opposition and difficulty from every side – even from his own people. Yet he stood against the enemy and trusted God. Although we may never confront our enemies in war, we can learn from Nehemiah’s courage and faith as we struggle with the world and its values.

SeptemberFest

Sunday, September 8, 2018

Sunday, September 8 is our annual SeptemberFest! We will once again have our worship service outdoors, so dress for the weather. It’s forecasted to be a bit chilly, so wear something warm! Please bring chairs if you can – maybe even extras to share with those who don’t bring their own. We will have folding chairs available for those who need them. KidLife Worship and nursery will be available.

After service, it’s time to eat! Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided, along with buns, toppings, tableware, and water. Please bring a dish to share (salads, sides, chips, desserts, etc.). You can drop it off in the gym / kitchen before service. This year, we plan to have the food tables set up in the gym so we don’t have to worry about the wind blowing everything away. Once you get your food, please head back outside to eat. We will have some tables set up, or just circle up the chairs you brought! Please don’t bring chairs into the gym.

We will also be handing out information on all of our various ministries, fall programming, and volunteer opportunities, so this is a good time to learn how to plug into the RRC community and have any questions answered.

Also be on the lookout for:
  • cornhole tournament – signups will be available Sunday
  • bounce houses – we will have one outdoors for the older kids, and one in the gym for kids 5 and under
  • 9 square
  • ice cream table
  • guessing jars for prizes
  • other games and activities – also feel free to bring games of your own!
  • lost and found table in the gym
