Encounter, Engage, & Experience God Daily

Amy RauGuest Speaker Amy Rau is delighted to share an experience of fellowship, fun, and faith at our first annual Ladies Day event! She is married to a wonderful Christian man, Nick, and has a daughter (Arianna, 11) and two step-children (Samantha, 22, and Benjamin, 20). Amy has a pre-seminary degree from Kuyper College and is currently a member of The Springs Free Methodist Church in Cedar Springs. She serves on the Church Board (Visionary Leadership Team), leads the Welcome Team, and is currently teaching God’s Word to 5th & 6th graders on Wednesday evenings. She also finds time to lead evening services at their sister church in Sparta. Outside of church, Amy sits on the CASSA (Cedar Area Select Soccer Association) board, volunteers weekly in her daughter’s elementary school classroom, and coaches girls basketball.

Through God’s word and her own personal testimony, Amy’s goal is to invigorate and activate women in this journey called life. She is passionate about loving Jesus personally and sharing Him with everyone! She says that her existence is to “reflect Christ to all in any circumstance for which I am a work in progress.” She also believes that Abraham Kuyper said it best, “There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry, Mine!”

Sticky Faith in the Church Library

A book was mentioned in Jim Scholten’s Sunday School class that addresses a very big concern for the church: Children who are raised in Christian families but who leave the church after high school. This book, called Sticky Faith – Everyday Ideas to Build Lasting Faith in Your Kids by Dr. Kara E. Powell and Dr. Chap Clark is now in the library in the Christian Living section. It has ideas for how the church as a whole can reach out to the young people in their congregation, so don’t skip this book if you don’t have children or teens.

Typhoon Haiyan

A message from the RCA CARE Network

Typhoon Haiyan–possibly the strongest tropical storm ever to hit land–blew through the Philippines last November causing extensive damage and killing thousands.

The RCA CARE Network is responding to the disaster on several fronts. “Our capable partners immediately began responding to Typhoon Haiyan, and going forward, we will be supporting the efforts of World Vision and World Renew,” says Jay Harsevoort, coordinator of the RCA CARE Network. The RCA CARE Network has already disbursed initial grants to World Vision and Food for the Hungry. Both are active in the Philippines.

What you can do:

Please pray for the people whose lives have been torn apart by this typhoon–for people who have lost loved ones, suffered injury, or sustained damage to their homes or businesses. Pray too for the rescue workers, first responders, and early response coordinators.

Donations should be made directly to the RCA:
To support disaster response efforts, donate online at www.rca.org/haiyan or send a check to Reformed Church in America, Attn: Finance Department, 4500 60th St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49512. Checks should be designated “Haiyan.”

We also have a new fiction book, although your librarian hates to call it fiction: The Harbinger by Jonathan Cahn. This is a most thought-provoking book. Come on in and check it out!

Bible in a Year 2014

Bible in a Year

Are you up for the challenge?

Join us as we read through the Bible together in 2014! We will be using Words of Hope’s accompanying daily devotional. You can request a hard copy of the book, or receive the daily devotional via email (or both). If you would like the book, please email connections.rrc@gmail.com, or sign up at the info desk. If you wish to subscribe via email, click here and check the box that says “Read the Bible in a Year”.

To see a sample daily devotional, click here.

Be sure to pick up a bookmark from the Info Desk to use either in your devotional book or your Bible!

Note: The book is organized by day of the year (Day 1, Day 2, etc.) and not by date. To help you out, we have created a bookmark that matches the day of the year with the actual date. The type is small, so if you need a bigger reference, just download and print this pdf!
