Typhoon Haiyan

A message from the RCA CARE Network

Typhoon Haiyan–possibly the strongest tropical storm ever to hit land–blew through the Philippines last November causing extensive damage and killing thousands.

The RCA CARE Network is responding to the disaster on several fronts. “Our capable partners immediately began responding to Typhoon Haiyan, and going forward, we will be supporting the efforts of World Vision and World Renew,” says Jay Harsevoort, coordinator of the RCA CARE Network. The RCA CARE Network has already disbursed initial grants to World Vision and Food for the Hungry. Both are active in the Philippines.

What you can do:

Please pray for the people whose lives have been torn apart by this typhoon–for people who have lost loved ones, suffered injury, or sustained damage to their homes or businesses. Pray too for the rescue workers, first responders, and early response coordinators.

Donations should be made directly to the RCA:
To support disaster response efforts, donate online at www.rca.org/haiyan or send a check to Reformed Church in America, Attn: Finance Department, 4500 60th St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49512. Checks should be designated “Haiyan.”

Library Additions January 2014

Library BooksWe have added 5 new books to the library in January 2014. For Bible Reference: Ephesians: Finding Your Identity in Christ by Bruce Bickel and Stan Jantz. Christian Living: Richard Foster’s Prayer, Nancy Guthrie’s Holding on to Hope, Max Lucado’s A Love Worth Giving, and Stormie Omartian’s Just Enough Light for the Step I’m On. We also have a new fiction book, although your librarian hates to call it fiction: The Harbinger by Jonathan Cahn. This is a most thought-provoking book. Come on in and check it out!

Bible in a Year 2014

Bible in a Year

Are you up for the challenge?

Join us as we read through the Bible together in 2014! We will be using Words of Hope’s accompanying daily devotional. You can request a hard copy of the book, or receive the daily devotional via email (or both). If you would like the book, please email connections.rrc@gmail.com, or sign up at the info desk. If you wish to subscribe via email, click here and check the box that says “Read the Bible in a Year”.

To see a sample daily devotional, click here.

Be sure to pick up a bookmark from the Info Desk to use either in your devotional book or your Bible!

Note: The book is organized by day of the year (Day 1, Day 2, etc.) and not by date. To help you out, we have created a bookmark that matches the day of the year with the actual date. The type is small, so if you need a bigger reference, just download and print this pdf!

World Vision Ballot

World Vision Ballot

In honor of RRC Children’s Ministries, we have decided to do something a little different this year in lieu of Christmas gifts. Week 2 of our “Get Ready for Christmas” lessons had us all thinking – is it better to give or receive? There were some mixed feelings about this.

This year we have decided to GIVE in honor of our children and leaders to World Vision! The fun part is that the kids, along with their families, get to decide what we are going to give! Below you will find three pictures with different options for giving. Please talk and pray about this with your family and decide on one option: (a) a goat & 2 chickens, (b) 5 ducks, 1 chicken, & 2 rabbits, or (c) 3 ducks & a goat!

For your vote to count (and we want it to!), please cut out the option you have chosen and bring it with you to church. The kids will then place it in a voting box and we will announce on December 15 which option has won!

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Download the 2013 ballot here!

And the winner is….1 Goat and 2 Chickens!

About the ornaments

In Haiti, children make soccer balls out of rags. These “rag ball” ornaments were made to remind us of our blessings and to support the Haiti Foundation Against Poverty.
