Family Spotlight: The Muellers

The Beacon - March/April 2012

From our March/April 2012 newsletter

MuellerAttending since fall of 2010 • Jaime and Brandon Mueller are a self-described typical family – two busy working parents with a young family. Like many parents, they wanted a church with a vibrant children’s and youth programs with opportunities to get involved. They also wanted a church that still had some traditional elements, and that’s exactly what they found at Rockford Reformed Church.

Jaime and Brandon were both born and raised in the Grand Rapids / Rockford area. During high school and college, they both worked at Russ’ Restaurant on Plainfield Ave. – he was a cook and she was a waitress. It was a match made in heaven! They were married in June of 2005 after three years of dating. They built a house in Rockford (where they still live), and a few years later welcomed their first child, Sawyer. Two years later, in 2010, Jordyn was born. As a family, they enjoy doing whatever they can outside – camping, swimming, fishing – and spending time with friends and family. Jaime works at AppleTree Christian Learning Centers as a center director, and Brandon attends Ferris State University, where he is studying for his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, while also doing maintenance for Waterworks. In the meantime, they continue to enjoy being involved with RRC, where Brandon was recently elected to a three-year term as a service deacon. Says Jaime, “We are blessed to be a part of such a great Christian community!”

Pray for Haiti!

The Beacon - March/April 2012

By Rachel DeKuiper • From our March/April 2012 newsletter

Poverty. Destruction. Faith. Hope. All of these themes resonate in the country of Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. I’ve had the privilege of traveling to Haiti twice and will travel there again in July with team members from Rockford Reformed Church.

The Well

The Beacon - March/April 2012

By Bryan Boersma • From our March/April 2012 newsletter

Several Sundays ago, guest speaker Doug McClintic was invited to come and preach in the Well. In a conversation with Doug following his visit, he was asked what some of his impressions were. Among the many positive things he said, he also responded by saying, “You all worship in a gym. You just really do.” The comment wasn’t taken as a putdown, as it was not intended that way. It was a matter-of-fact statement, stating the obvious.

Worship on Earth as it is in Heaven

The Beacon - March/April 2012

By Ethan Ezikian • From our March/April 2012 newsletter

After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
-Revelation 7:9-10 (English Standard Version)

Not Your Average Vacation!

The Beacon - March/April 2012

By Dianne Bennett • From our March/April 2012 newsletter

After a long flight to Tel Aviv, Israel, our group of 40 people from Michigan, Iowa, Ohio, Minnesota, and New York gathered up our luggage, prayed for a safe journey, and quickly filed onto a bus. We were headed out for a full day of Bible study and experiences in northern Israel. We learned from Marlin Vis, our leader, that “we were on a pilgrimage of the Holy Land – we were NOT tourists.” This meant keeping up with the leader and not wandering off to take pictures until we had completed our study so we knew what we were taking pictures of. We found out that Marlin is a wealth of information, and he shares it at a rapid fire pace (just like he walks…more about that later).

Library Reminder

Library BooksPlease remember to sign out library materials, even if you are just using them for the day! The sign-out cards are used to send reminder notes if materials have been out for an extended period of time, and also to determine if materials should stay on the shelves or be withdrawn. If sign-out cards have not been used, there is no way to know if the books have been used, and they run the risk of being removed from the library.
