Consistory Nominations

Deadline for 2018 nominations is 12 noon on Sunday, September 30.
Up for nomination: 2 Shepherd Elders and 2 Service Deacons

Every year members of RRC have the opportunity to nominate fellow members to the Consistory, our governing body made up of 6 Shepherd Elders, 6 Service Deacons, and the Administrative Board. When we follow biblical teaching toward choosing who should serve as elders and deacons, your nominations must involve a careful and thoughtful evaluation of whether the candidates demonstrate biblical criteria and specific gifts and abilities. Below is a list of qualifications and criteria for these roles:

  • Passionate for and actively participating toward RRC’s vision, mission, and ministry.
  • Committed to knowing, believing, applying, and living out the truths of the gospel.
  • Biblical qualifications specific to an elder include being self-controlled, gentle, not quarrelsome or quick-tempered, hospitable, able to teach, disciplined, not a lover of money, loves what is good.
  • Gifts specific to an elder may include leadership, wisdom, faith, intercession, knowledge, and exhortation.
  • Gifts specific to a deacon may include mercy, hospitality, service, leadership, wisdom, and faith.

Specific Role of Shepherd Elder
  • Provide pastoral care through visits and personal contacts
  • Oversee membership changes
  • Exercise discipline according to Scripture and the Book of Church Order
  • Schedule and administer the sacraments
  • All elders watch over the life and maturity of the members
  • All elders are tasked with watching over one another, the deacons, and pastor, and making certain that what is taught and preached is in accord with Scripture

Specific Role of Service Deacon
  • Promote generous Christian stewardship
  • Approve priorities for special offerings
  • Oversee distribution of Helping Hands Fund to members in need
  • Provide for the collection and counting of offerings
  • Promote and be involved in RCA Diaconal Ministries
  • Challenge the congregation with new service ministries

Each communicant member of Rockford Reformed Church can fill out one nomination form. You can find the form in the back of the sanctuary. Completed forms can be placed in the box at the back of the sanctuary. You can also email your nominations directly to the front office.

A list of those eligible for nomination can be found with the nomination forms in the back of the sanctuary. Those currently on consistory are ineligible, as are all RRC staff. Spouses cannot serve on consistory at the same time.

We are currently collecting the following items. They can be placed in the giant wooden crate in the lobby:
  • North Kent Connect: cereal & oatmeal
  • The Other Way: crackers & juice boxes

Throughout the year, we collect donation items for various community ministries such as North Kent Connect and Alpha Family Center of Cedar Springs. Signs in the lobby will tell you what items we are currently looking for.

Flu Clinic

Wed, October 10, 2018 • 5-6:30pm

In Room 141 (next to the gym)

Offered by the Spectrum Health Continuing Care Visiting Nurse Association (VNA). For your health and the safety of others, the best way to prevent the spreading of flu is to get your flu shot. This is especially true if you spend time with the young or elderly. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone older than six months be vaccinated for the flu. Spectrum Health provides a number of convenient ways for you and your family to get vaccinated, including this clinic at Rockford Reformed Church.

REAL Men

Every other Friday, 7am, Arnie’s Restaurant

REAL exists to strengthen our relationship with Christ and with each other by authentically sharing our faith journey so we all can be encouraged and grow in our faith.

REAL is a group that strives to create authentic and meaningful relationships among men and that desires a deeper relationship with Christ. It is a group that believes God is actively working in our lives, and that we all have a story that He wants us to tell. It is not a Bible study or an accountability group, and it is not exclusive to RRC, so invite others! Each meeting will feature a speaker. See below for the current schedule.

Note: Starting in January, we will be meeting at Arnie’s Restaurant, 34 S Squires St, downtown Rockford. The restaurant isn’t open at that time, so we have the place to ourselves. Coffee and refreshments provided.

Goals

  • Relationship – God created to us to be in fellowship, and when we share in life, we experience the fullness of the life he created for us.
  • Encouragement – God has enriched our lives with experiences that are not just for us. The blessings and tribulations of our lives are also intended to enrich the lives of others.
  • Authenticity – We are perfectly loved by God and our need for acceptance is found in Him alone. This frees us to express ourselves as who we are, not as who we wish we were.
  • Love – With humility and grace towards others as God does with each of us.
