Life-Giving Words (from the series Life Together)

Ephesians 4:25-30

1. The Bible commands us to never use corrupting talk.
– Words that wound.
– Words that entice.
– Words of exasperation.
– Words of gossip or slander.
– Words conveying false values.
– Foul language.
2. The Bible commands us to only speak upbuilding words of grace.
– Words of encouragement.
– Words of affirmation.
– Words of truth.
– Words of faith.
– Small talk.
3. The Bible commands us to not grieve the Holy Spirit.
Our Response: God’s Word commands us to speak only life-giving words.
– Apply Jesus’ heart principle. (Luke 6:45)
– Activate Paul’s word filter. (Ephesians 4:29)

Ephesians 4:7-13


1. Now that Christ has ascended in victory, what does he do?
– Christ gives gifts to every believer.
– Psalm 68:1, 18; John 16:7; Romans 12:4-6
2. What is the responsibility of Christians with teaching and leadership gifts?
– Those who teach and lead are called to equip the saints to do ministry.
– 2 Timothy 3:16-17
3. What is the responsibility of all Christians?
– All believers are to receive equipping for life and ministry, and to use their gifts to build up the local congregation and further its mission.
4. What is the goal of our ministry to one another?
– The goal of body building ministry is to enable us to live the life Jesus would live if he were living our lives.
Our Response: We are responsible to be equipped for life and ministry and to use our gifts to build up the local congregation so that we might be Christ’s hands, feet and voice to others.
