Youth Ministry Update 07-25-14

As many of you know, Ben Gandy has resigned his position as Youth Director to attend seminary. Ben’s last day with us will be Sunday, August 10th. Please join us for a farewell for Ben between the services in the Family Life Center that day, beginning about 10 AM. Ben will be attending Calvin Theological Seminary beginning later in August. We wish him and Lindsay God’s presence and blessing as they begin this new chapter in their faith journey!
Earlier this week in a special session Consistory voted unanimously to hire Jessica and Rob Matthews as our Interim Youth Directors. They will share the full time position. Most of you know Jessica and Rob well, as they have been a part of the RRC family for most of their lives. Jessica has a degree in Youth Ministry and earlier served as Youth Director at Rock Pointe Church. Rob has a Masters of Divinity degree from Western Theological Seminary. Jessica and Rob have both been serving on staff at Cran-Hill Ranch this summer.
Jessica and Rob will begin their work at RRC on August 19th and will minister with us as Interim Youth Directors until at least June 1, 2015. The fact that Jessica and Rob already have a relationship with many of our youth and have volunteered in the Youth Ministry program in the past will make the transition an easier one for everyone! Please warmly welcome Jessica and Rob back to Rockford Reformed!
In early 2015 a Search Committee will be established to select a permanent Youth Director. If Jessica and/or Rob decide they would like to be candidates for the permanent position, they will be most welcome to be a part of that process.
As you may recall, Ashley Edwards was hired earlier this year with special funds outside the budget to assist with Youth Ministry program, focusing primarily in the Middle School program, during 2014. Ashley will end her time on staff at the end of this year, but will be a valuable resource to Jessica and Rob during the transition.
Finally, we received word a couple of weeks ago from Trisha Van Stensel that she will be leaving her position as Youth Ministry Administrative Assistant at the end of the year. After serving in this position for almost eight years, Trisha is leaving for personal reasons, having other areas of her life where she now wants to focus her energy and attention. We wish her only the best, as she makes these changes in her life.
During this time of transition in the life of our congregation, we are also witnessing significant transition in our Youth Ministries. But we believe that God has been faithful, providing us with the leadership we need to move forward during the coming year and minister to and with our youth here at RRC. We are especially thankful for the volunteers who serve our Youth Ministry in a variety of roles with their gifts and talents, providing continuity and care during a time of change.
If you have questions or would like to serve in the Youth Ministry program, feel free to talk with Youth Ministry staff, any of the members of the Youth Ministry Team (Diane Brownell, Alex Bruyn, Roger Hoogewind, Ruth Hosler, Phil Knapp) or Pastor David.
